Steroid injections

I do quite a lot of steroid injections. They can be a really helpful intervention that fits between:

doing nothing

hand therapy solutions

and

surgery

It is important to be aware of ‘steroid flare’ (a couple of days of increased pain that some patients have - rest, ice pack, support with a splint, anti-inflammatory paikillers is the way to deal with that. Some may have skin colour/texture change (temporary - 3-12 months).

Risks: tendon rupture and infection - extremely rare - less than 1 in 1000

Caution: pregnancy
